  • Key responsibilties
  • Solution Design Oversight: Partner with our Systems Integration (SI) partner throughout the e-commerce platform build, providing oversight of architectural decisions to ensure they are aligned with our broader technology strategy. While the SI will lead the design work, you will be the internal voice of authority — questioning, challenging, and validating decisions on our behalf
  • Technical Representation: Act as the internal bridge between our existing technology landscape and the SI's design team, providing detailed knowledge of our current systems, data flows, and integration patterns to inform design decisions
  • Integration Architecture: Take a leading role in the design of integrations between the new e-commerce platform (Shopify) and our ERP system. This is a critical workstream requiring close attention to data consistency, error handling, and long-term maintainability
  • Design Handover & Ownership: Work collaboratively with the SI from day one with the explicit goal of taking full ownership of the technical architecture once the build is complete. This means being present throughout, not parachuting in at the end
  • Architecture Documentation: Co-create and maintain architecture documentation — including diagrams, integration maps, and decision records — that accurately reflects what has been built and can be used to support future changes and enhancements
  • Platform Governance: As you build expertise in Shopify throughout the project, you will become our internal authority on the platform — helping to manage, review, and govern change requests, third-party apps, and enhancements once the platform is live
  • Stakeholder Support: Work closely with the Technology Director (project lead) to communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and informed decision-making across the business
  • Technology Acumen: Stay current with the Shopify ecosystem, relevant third-party tooling, and e-commerce best practices, bringing informed recommendations to the team as the platform evolves
  • **Requirements**
  • You are:
  • Technically Grounded: You have a software engineering background — you understand code, systems, and integrations at a meaningful level. You may be stepping into an architecture-focused role for the first time, and that is expected; what matters is that you can engage substantively with the SI on technical decisions
  • A Fast Learner: You may not be a Shopify expert today, but you are motivated to become one. You approach new platforms and tools with curiosity and are comfortable building expertise on the job
  • Systems-Minded: You think about how components fit together. You understand data flow, API design, and the implications of integration choices — and you ask the right questions when something doesn't add up
  • A Clear Communicator: You can translate technical detail into language that makes sense to non-engineers. You are comfortable presenting options, explaining trade-offs, and making a case for a particular approach
  • Collaborative but Confident: You work well with external partners and internal stakeholders alike. You know when to align and when to push back — and you do both with confidence and professionalism
  • Detail-Oriented: You care about documentation. You understand that architecture diagrams and decision records are not an afterthought — they are what makes a platform maintainable and scalable over time
  • Commercially Aware: You understand that technical decisions have business implications. You factor in maintainability, cost, delivery risk, and long-term flexibility when evaluating options
  • Comfortable with Ambiguity: This is a project environment with evolving requirements. You bring structure and clarity where you can, and remain adaptable where you must
