  • # **About the Role**
  • Abbott Diabetes Care is looking for a **Principal Full Stack Software Engineer** to join a modern software engineering team building scalable, cloud-native digital platforms.
  • This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing, building, and delivering high-quality software across the full technology stack. You will work across frontend interfaces, backend services, APIs, integrations, workflow automation, data pipelines, and production systems.
  • The role sits within an **eCommerce and enterprise application environment**, supporting large-scale digital platforms and business-critical processes. We are looking for someone who combines strong software engineering fundamentals with practical experience building complex applications in large organizations.
  • The ideal candidate will be comfortable owning features end-to-end, contributing to architectural decisions, understanding business processes, and collaborating closely with product, design, QA, operations, and business stakeholders.
  • This is a small, high-output team where engineers are expected to take ownership, move quickly, and build reliable software that can scale.
  • ## **What You’ll Do**
  • As a Principal Full Stack Software Engineer, you will:
  • Design and build full stack features across frontend, backend, integration, and data layers.
  • Develop scalable software for eCommerce, digital platforms, and enterprise applications.
  • Build and maintain microservices, workflow automation, and document processing pipelines.
  • Contribute to system architecture, technical design decisions, and platform evolution.
  • Integrate with internal systems, external partners, and third-party platforms using REST APIs and event-driven messaging patterns.
  • Build and maintain data transformation and migration pipelines across modern and legacy systems.
  • Translate complex business processes into reliable, maintainable technical solutions.
  • Write and maintain automated tests, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
  • Support production systems through monitoring, incident response, troubleshooting, and stability improvements.
  • Collaborate across product, design, QA, operations, and business teams within two-week sprint cycles.
  • Mentor peers and contribute to engineering standards, coding practices, and technical quality.
  • ## **Key Responsibilities**
  • **Full Stack Feature Delivery**
  • Own features from technical design through development, testing, deployment, and production support. You will work with a strong bias toward delivery while maintaining quality, scalability, and reliability.
  • **Architecture & Technical Design**
  • Contribute to system design and architectural decisions across frontend, backend, APIs, integrations, and data flows. Implement services using sound engineering principles and define clean API contracts and integration patterns.
  • **eCommerce & Business Process Engineering**
  • Build software that supports digital commerce, customer journeys, operational workflows, and enterprise-scale business processes. You will need to understand how business requirements translate into scalable application design.
  • **Integration & APIs**
  • Design and maintain integrations with internal platforms, external partners, and enterprise systems. This includes REST APIs, event-driven messaging, data mapping, contract validation, and complex transformation logic.
  • **Data Migration & Transformation**
  • Develop data migration, reconciliation, and transformation pipelines across modern and legacy platforms. Ensure data accuracy, reliability, and consistency across systems.
  • **Code Quality & Testing**
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code. Build and maintain automated tests across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels. Participate actively in code reviews and take ownership of technical debt within your area.
  • **Operational Ownership**
  • Support production systems alongside feature development. Participate in incident response, monitoring, alerting, root cause analysis, and platform stability improvements.
  • **Collaboration & Mentorship**
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams and provide guidance to other engineers. Help strengthen team practices, engineering standards, and delivery discipline.
  • **Required Experience**
  • We are looking for someone with:
  • 5–8+ years of professional full stack software engineering experience.
  • Experience building production-grade backend services using technologies such as **Java/Spring Boot, Kotlin, Node.js, or equivalent**.
  • Strong frontend development experience using modern JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform such as **AWS or Azure**.
  • Experience with cloud services including compute, messaging, storage, and managed databases.
  • Strong understanding of **REST API design**, event-driven architecture, and message-based integration patterns.
  • Experience building or contributing to large-scale enterprise applications.
  • Experience working on platforms involving **eCommerce, CRM, CMS, digital commerce, or customer-facing systems**.
  • Strong understanding of business processes and how they translate into software design.
  • Experience with workflow automation or orchestration tools such as **Camunda, Zeebe, or similar**.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices such as **Terraform** or equivalent.
  • Strong testing discipline, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Experience with data migration, legacy system integration, transformation, and reconciliation.
  • Track record supporting production systems, including observability, alerting, troubleshooting, and incident response.
  • Experience managing technical delivery across cross-team, cross-functional, or cross-vendor dependencies.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • **Preferred Experience**
  • The following would be advantageous:
  • Experience in **eCommerce**, digital commerce, or large-scale transactional platforms.
  • Experience working in large organizations with complex enterprise application landscapes.
  • Experience with CRM, CMS, commerce platforms, APIs, and integration-heavy environments.
  • BPMN workflow modelling and workflow orchestration at scale.
  • OCR, document processing, or ML model integration in production systems.
  • Greenfield platform build experience or experience building platforms from the ground up.
  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, medical technology, or another regulated industry.
  • Exposure to compliance-aware environments, including audit trails, data protection, privacy, or regulated data handling.
  • Experience working in agile engineering teams with two-week sprint delivery cycles.
  • **What We Offer**
  • Attractive compensation package that includes **competitive pay and structure Bonus**, as well as benefits such as
  • Private Health Insurance for you and your family
  • Occupational Pension Scheme with an excellence contribution rate
  • Bonus Target
  • Life assurance
  • Career Development
  • Growing business plus access to many more benefits
