  • The eCommerce Compliance Manager is a dynamic, people-oriented, and highly analytical individual responsible for overseeing eCommerce compliance efforts across Japan. This role works closely with the account health team to manage Pattern's compliance with various eCommerce platform policies and local government regulations. The role also proactively reviews product listing content and partners with selling teams to ensure marketplace policy-compliant listings across Amazon Japan, Rakuten, Yahoo! Shopping, and other Japan-based platforms.
  • **Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
  • Ensure full compliance with all import-related regulations, including Japan Customs procedures, product inspections, quarantine requirements, and import documentation
  • Coordinate with Japanese regulatory bodies — including MHLW, CAA, and NITE — to secure necessary certifications and approvals for imported products by category
  • Manage mandatory Japanese product safety certifications (PSE, PSC) for applicable product categories
  • Ensure compliance with Keihyo-ho (景品表示法) and Yakuji-ho (薬機法) for advertising content, discount claims, and health-related product language
  • Audit product catalog listings for compliance with Japanese platform policies and consumer protection laws
  • Monitor and update banned keywords, restricted product categories, and compliance notices across Japan eCommerce platforms
  • Manage seller account health, including writing and submitting Plans of Action (POAs) in response to performance notifications or policy violations
  • Proactively identify and troubleshoot potential compliance risks before they escalate
  • Communicate compliance issues clearly and promptly to the seller and commercial teams
  • Manage listings on Amazon Japan, Rakuten Ichiba, Yahoo! Shopping, and other Japan marketplaces with deep policy expertise, focusing on new and evolving platform regulations
  • **Qualifications**
  • 4+ years of working experience
  • Deep working knowledge of Yakuji-ho (薬機法) and Keihyo-ho (景品表示法), including practical experience applying these laws to real product listings and marketing content
  • Hands-on experience navigating Japanese import regulations — customs procedures, MHLW approvals, PSE/PSC certifications, and product category-specific requirements
  • Proven ability to assess product compliance risks and act independently, without needing to escalate every decision
  • Business-level Japanese proficiency (reading and writing); able to interpret regulatory documents, official notices, and platform policy updates
  • Strong judgement, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to doing things the right way
  • **Preferred:**
  • Experience working on the product or brand side of import compliance, rather than purely a platform operations background
  • Familiarity with Amazon Japan and/or Rakuten Ichiba account health management, including Plans of Action
  • Exposure to cross-border eCommerce import flows into Japan
  • Experience of liaising directly with regulatory bodies such as MHLW, CAA, or customs authorities
  • Conversational in English
